Trenton needs a Civilian Complaint Review Board: Police Accountability, Better Department!

The Issue

Trenton needs an independent Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB) to ensure police accountability, transparency, and community trust. Currently, complaints against law enforcement lack true independent oversight, leaving many residents without justice. A CCRB would provide a fair, transparent, and community-driven process to review allegations of police misconduct while also fostering ongoing dialogue between law enforcement and the community.

We call on Trenton city officials to establish a fully empowered CCRB with the authority to:
✅ Independently investigate police misconduct and excessive force complaints.
✅ Recommend disciplinary actions to ensure officers are held accountable.
✅ Promote transparency through public reporting on findings and outcomes.
✅ Include community representation, ensuring diverse voices help oversee law enforcement.
✅ Request investigative assistance from the City Council, utilizing their existing powers to gather information when necessary.
✅ Host monthly public meetings to foster community policing, awareness, and engagement, allowing residents to voice concerns and collaborate on solutions.

A strong CCRB would not only hold law enforcement accountable but also serve as a platform for ongoing education, trust-building, and problem-solving between the police and the people they serve. Other cities have successfully implemented similar models—now it's time for Trenton to take action.

Sign this petition today to demand that our elected leaders establish a CCRB that ensures justice, transparency, and true community engagement.

📢 Your voice matters! Let’s work together for accountability, trust, and a safer Trenton.
