💙 Trentin’s Promise Act 💙
Because Every Family Deserves an Advocate
When 16-year-old Trentin Ray Preston Isaac was murdered in November 2024, our family was left with little updates, guidance, and no victim advocate. Like so many families of homicide victims, we had to navigate
unimaginable heartbreak and confusion completely on our own.
Under current Ohio procedures, families are not automatically assigned a victim advocate until a case officially reaches court — often months after a loved one’s death. By then, the critical early days have already passed — days filled with unanswered questions, trauma, and the need for direction that no grieving family should have to face alone.
That’s why we’re fighting for The Trentin’s Promise Act, a proposed Ohio law that would ensure no family ever walks this road alone again.
⸻
💙 What the Act Would Do
✅ Automatic Victim Advocate Assignment
When a death is ruled or investigated as a homicide or suspicious, law enforcement would be required to notify the Victim Services Division within 24 hours — and a victim advocate must be assigned to the family within 48 hours.
✅ Improved Communication & Support
The assigned advocate would act as a bridge between law enforcement, prosecutors, and families — providing updates, explaining rights, and connecting families to vital resources such as counseling, financial aid, and legal assistance.
✅ Accountability & Oversight
The Ohio Attorney General’s Office would oversee compliance and issue annual public reports to ensure families are not left behind.
✅ Funding Through Existing Victim Resources
The program would draw on existing VOCA (Victims of Crime Act) funds and state victim-assistance resources, minimizing new costs to taxpayers.
⸻
💙 Why It Matters
• Families deserve dignity, compassion, and support from the moment tragedy strikes.
• Early advocacy builds trust between families and investigators.
• Emotional and legal guidance in those first days can make a world of difference in the path toward justice and healing.
No mother, father, aunt, or sibling should ever be left to piece things together alone while trying to survive the worst day of their life.
The Trentin’s Promise Act was inspired by Trentin’s story — but it’s meant for every family who has faced a sudden, violent loss. Together, we can make sure that every family in Ohio has an advocate, a voice, and someone to walk beside them from day one.

Letter from Michelle Isaac:
When my nephew, Trentin Isaac, was murdered, our family was left completely alone. We didn’t know what our rights were, we didn’t get guidance from anyone, and no victim advocate was assigned to help us navigate the system. For months, we were in the dark — emotionally, legally, and practically — during the hardest time of our lives.
No family should ever have to experience this. Every homicide victim’s family deserves immediate support, information, and a voice from the moment tragedy strikes.
That’s why we are calling on Ohio lawmakers to pass the Trentin’s Promise Act, which will:
Automatically assign a victim advocate as soon as a death is ruled a homicide or suspicious.
Require law enforcement to notify Victim Services within 24 hours.
Guarantee that families receive emotional, legal, and resource support immediately.
By signing this petition, you are helping ensure that no family ever has to walk this road alone. Every loved one taken deserves justice, and every family deserves guidance and support from day one.
