Treat Nigerian school children with malaria with Security vote for Governors

The Issue

Every day in Nigeria, a child dies every minute from malaria. What is needed to prevent this are two things - insecticide treated nets and clean environments. Even though these things can be provided easily, it is not so. Monies that should have been used for drugs, hospitals and clean environments are not provided, yet every month 'security votes' sometimes totaling up to N500million are paid monthly to some governors in some states. These monies are not accounted for and end up in the pockets of governors and their families. We at the Africa Network for Environment & Economic Justice, ANEEJ, together with Civil Empowerment and Rule of Law Support Initiative, CERLSI, ask you to kindly call on the National Assembly to pass a law compelling state governors to give half their 'security votes' for research into finding a permanent solution to deaths of children in Nigeria from malaria.
