The Issue
Advocacy VideoA. Introduction of the Issue
• What is the problem?
Improper waste disposal is a recurring problem in schools and communities, often caused by lack of motivation, poor waste segregation habits, and minimal accountability. This results in littered surroundings, health risks, and environmental damage.
• Who is affected?
The students, staff, and teachers of the Tulay na Lupa National High School are being affected by this current issue.
B. Importance of the Advocacy
• Why this issue matters
When it comes to waste disposal, there are many factors that could happen if we let this issue unnoticed. It could lead to serious health and environmental issues. Accumulated garbage that was tossed by the students could clog drainage systems in the school, causing flooding in heavy rains. Also, it also becomes breeding area of mosquitoes and flies that causes diseases. Overtime, this pollution could cause contribution in air and water pollution. Therefore, waste management is important to protect and prevent one's health and the environment.
C. Proposed Solution
• What change do you want?
Our group's mission is to promote responsible waste disposal through positive reinforcement rather than punishment. Our vision is to create a clean, disciplined, and environmentally responsible community where proper waste management becomes a daily habit.
• What action should be taken?
To turn the issue into a competition by motivating students through a structured reward system.
D. Call to Action
The project operates in a structured reward system by assigning points to classes or groups based on proper waste disposal practices.
Implementation Process:
• Establish clear rules and criteria for earning and deducting points.
• Orient students and teachers on proper waste segregation and the point system.
• Assign monitors responsible for recording and validating points.
• Post weekly point standings for transparency.
• Recognize and reward top-performing classes monthly.
