Transparency Regarding the Entry of Pejman Jamshidi into Canada

The Issue

Honourable Ministers and Officials of the Government of Canada,

CC: Iranian-Canadian Community | Iranian Diaspora

Hereby, as the 1Kalameh Legal Network and a group of members of the Iranian-Canadian community, we express our concern regarding recent credible reports indicating that Mr. Pejman Jamshidi has entered Canada while he remains under judicial investigation in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to reports:

·       Mr. Jamshidi is accused of sexual assault in Iran, though the full details have not been publicly disclosed.

·       Visual evidence shows him at Toronto Pearson International Airport, indicating his arrival in Canada.

·       His legal team has confirmed his travel abroad, yet no information has been released on the type of visa, immigration status, or exact conditions of his entry.

Questions to the Government of Canada:

Given public interest, transparency, and community safety, we respectfully request clarification on:

1- Under what legal status did Mr. Jamshidi enter Canada - temporary visa, work permit, asylum request, or other authorization?

2- Were Canadian border or immigration authorities aware of his ongoing criminal case abroad, and was any risk assessment conducted upon entry?

3- Is Mr. Jamshidi currently under any governmental supervision or control, and have any precautionary measures been taken?

4- What measures are in place to ensure that individuals facing serious charges abroad cannot exploit immigration or visa pathways to avoid accountability?

Summary:

This case, and similar ones, have raised significant concerns within the Iranian-Canadian community and among international observers, particularly regarding the principle of equality before the law. It is a legitimate expectation that individuals with serious criminal allegations or connections to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s regime should not be able to evade justice or obtain de facto immunity by relocating to Canada. We stress that our concern is not prejudgment, but a call for transparency, accountability, and the rule of law.

Given widespread reports of regime affiliates and individuals with ties to the Islamic Republic’s institutions residing in Canada, we urge the federal government to act decisively and transparently, consistent with Canadian democratic values, and to respond to the legitimate concerns of the Iranian Canadian community, human rights defenders, and independent civil organizations.

Conclusion:

We respectfully request a formal or public response through the relevant oversight bodies to address these concerns.

Members of the 1Kalameh Legal Network, as an independent, non-profit civic body, are fully prepared to provide any cooperation or legal consultation necessary to advance this matter and protect the public interest.

Sincerely,
Saeid Dehghan, Esq.
