Transitioning to 100% renewable energy

Transitioning to 100% renewable energy
The Issue
Dear Mr. John Halpin, Director General, John Abbott College,
We are writing you today to express our deep concerns regarding one of the most problematic challenges of modern times, global warming. In fact, climate change poses an immediate threat to humanity, as seen by the UN statistic indicating a 1.2 degrees Celsius increase in global temperature since the 1800s (https://climate.nasa.gov/vital-signs/global-temperature/?intent=111 As a result, significant changes can be seen through increased temperatures, wildfires, droughts, floods, biodiversity losses and even water shortages.
It baffles us to see some colleges treating it like an afterthought rather than a serious problem. We, the students at John Abbott College, recognize the urgency to take meaningful action to fight climate change.
As such, we call upon you, the Director General, to make a shift away from natural gas toward renewable energy sources at John Abbott College. Why should we invest in renewable energies, such as hydro or geothermal? Well, this investment would play a crucial role in the reduction of methane gas emissions as an establishment, ultimately mitigating future climate catastrophe. Our proposed plan of action suggests these following objectives: transitioning to a hundred percent renewable energy sources for campus operations by 2030, implementing strict building regulations to promote energy efficiency.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. We look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Nichols Deb and Vincent Desaulniers
