Stop Corporate Greed: Transform the Vacant Bi-Lo into a Community Fitness Hub!

The Issue

Big corporations continue to buy up property in Black Mountain, prioritizing profits over the needs of our community. The vacant Bi-Lo building is a prime example it sits empty/ warehouse space, rather than allowing it to serve a meaningful purpose. Instead of letting yet another valuable space lay fallow into the hands of corporate interests that only seek to eliminate competition, we have a real opportunity to turn it into something that benefits the people of Black Mountain.

We are working to secure an agreement from ingles to push them to transform the vacant Bi-Lo into a state-of-the-art community sports and fitness hub a space that fosters health, activity, and togetherness, rather than corporate monopolization.

Why This Matters

I was born and raised in Black Mountain, and I've seen firsthand how limited our fitness options have been. As a graduate of Owen High School and a former wrestler, I know how important fitness is not just for physical health, but for building discipline, confidence, and a strong community. Right now, the only real gym option in town is the YMCA, which struggles to fully meet the needs of our growing community. I love the YMCA but I think many can agreed we need a larger facility that caters to all walks of life.

Rather than allowing corporate giants to keep driving up costs and pushing out local businesses, we should demand that spaces like the Bi-Lo be utilized for the benefit of the community. This project isn't just a business idea it's a way to give back to the town that shaped me. It's about making sure we, the people of Black Mountain, control how our town develops not faceless corporations looking to maximize profits at our expense.

What We Are Fighting For

This is a community-driven movement

Can we force ingles to do anything?

no, but we can make our voices heard and our frustration visible we hold the power and can indirectly change the tides through community unity.
We can vote on laws that constrict monopolization and we can boycott these corporation for greedy business practices.
