Transform old pool into a public skatepark

Transform old pool into a public skatepark
The Issue
Growing up in Bluffton, I have fond memories of the community pool on Spring Street. It was a place where friendships were forged, and adults and children alike enjoyed memorable moments. Now, as a parent of two teenagers, I see a different need for our community—a concrete skatepark where my children and their friends can skate, socialize, and stay active.
Instead of letting the old community pool sit unused and valuable municipal space go to waste, there is an exciting opportunity before us: transforming the footprint of the former pool into a permanent, free, public skatepark.
Bluffton, like many American towns, needs more recreational facilities for its youth. According to research, skateboarding and similar action sports provide not only physical health benefits but also enhance mental well-being and community spirit. A local skatepark would serve our children, teenagers, and active youth by giving them a safe and dedicated space to practice skateboarding, BMX, and scootering.
Moreover, a skatepark is a cost-effective solution. Studies show that converting existing spaces can save both time and money compared to building new facilities from scratch. By capitalizing on the existing infrastructure of the old pool, the town can efficiently create a state-of-the-art skatepark with minimal environmental impact.
Imagine a vibrant area where our young people can learn new skills, gain confidence, and form positive relationships while staying off the streets. Such a space would not only enrich their lives but also boost the local economy by drawing skating enthusiasts from neighboring towns, fostering an inclusive and dynamic community.
Friends, parents, and residents of Bluffton, let's come together and support the transformation of the old community pool area into a skatepark. It's a small change with enormous potential benefits for our community. Please sign this petition and help provide our youth with a new outlet for joy and creativity.
