The Issue

In our schools, many students face bullying simply for expressing their individuality, such as cross-dressing. This personal story is not an isolated incident but echoes throughout our educational institutions, casting a shadow over our society's progress towards acceptance and equality.

Bullying due to non-conforming gender expression not only affects the individuals targeted but also the entire community by fostering an environment of fear and discrimination. Statistics from the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) highlight that gender-based bullying remains a pervasive issue in schools. Despite being an infraction under the Anti-Bullying Act of 2013, enforcement is lacking, leaving countless students unprotected.

Immediate and effective measures are imperative. One actionable solution is implementing comprehensive gender sensitivity workshops and integrating gender education into school curricula. These programs can raise awareness, promote inclusivity, and diminish prejudice by educating students, teachers, and school staff on the importance of gender equality.

Furthermore, stricter enforcement of existing anti-bullying laws is necessary. Schools must partner with organizations and government agencies to develop robust strategies ensuring a safe, supportive learning environment for all students, regardless of their gender identity or expression.

Together, we can create a society where acceptance is the norm, not the exception. It's time to change insights and cultivate understanding and respect in every classroom in the Philippines. Stand with us, and sign this petition to foster gender equality and end gender-based bullying in our schools.
