Transform City Pound Into a No-Kill Shelter and Construct a Larger Facility
The Issue
We are residents of the beautiful, highly urbanized city of San Jose Del Monte Bulacan, that boasts an impressive new city hall and new sprawling convention center. Yet while these developments display our city's ability to grow and prosper, it is hard to overlook an area where we're severely lacking: animal welfare. Our city pound operates as a kill shelter, with minimal funding and a facility so small, it quite literally could fit into a bathroom at our convention center.
In a city of our caliber, it would be expected that our local leaders, the mayor inclusive, would display exemplary compassion, decency, and intelligence, not only for the human constituents, but also for the voiceless among us – our animals. Yet, it seems that they have failed to truly educate the public and enforce the crucial animal welfare laws that could drastically improve the lives of animals within our city limits.
Surprisingly, the number of homeless animals in Philippines cities is estimated to be, 12 million stray dogs in the Philippines while a single female cat can be responsible for a feral colony of as many as 30 cats in a single year. (According to the Philippine Animal Welfare Society) (PAWS).
With kill shelters making up a significant portion of facilities in the Philippines [ This alarms many, including us, prompting the need for immediate action.
We propose that the city pound is converted into a no-kill shelter, and a larger, more modern facility be built to accommodate the animals. Investing in animal welfare is not just a simple act of compassion – it's a necessity that reflects our civility as a society.
It is regrettable that in our prosperous city, budget allocation for animal welfare seems to be missing. Yet by signing this petition, you can compel our local leaders to prioritize this issue, ultimately leading to the transformation of the city pound into a no-kill shelter and establishing a larger facility, thus offering a lifeline to countless animals and underlining our city’s commitment to all its inhabitants.
This is an issue close to my heart, and I believe it will resonate with many others who love this city and its animals. Please, sign this petition and let's strive for a city that is compassionate, humane, and kind towards all creatures.
