Our group have been gathering the views of residents in the community prior to the consultation with regards to the future use of the centre.
The overwhelming view is that nobody wants anything to change but would like investment into the centre to come into line with other centres that are having millions spent on them.
The most popular request or suggestion by far will be for a swimming pool to be built and it seems that the word is really spreading with regards to school children having a say because a great number of parents that we spoke to say that their children are going to request some kind of outside fitness-fun activities and it has been suggested that perhaps the local schools could organise a competition for the school children to come up with the best idea.
Its great news to us that the majority of people who have supported the campaign will be making it clear at the consultation that they feel as strongly as ever to have the future use of George Carnall for the community.
This has all been made possible because last May Labour Councillor Andrew Western took over the leadership of Trafford Council and has done his utmost to reverse many of the unpopular decisions that the previous Conservative Council had made especially the proposal to close George Carnall and not only is he now giving the community the opportunity to save the centre but also having a say in what else they would like to be built there.
The consultation is totally dependent on the Labour party staying in control of Trafford Council because they have always opposed the closure of George Carnall but if the Conservatives were to regain control of the Council then there would be more chance of hell freezing over before they consult with the community about anything let alone saving the Centre.
