Why this petition matters

Started by Marisa Jodhan

In light of the numerous lives lost on the roads of Guyana, I created this petition with hopes that the Government of Guyana can implement changes to protect both drivers and pedestrians on the roads.

Guyana has looked up to many foreign countries when it comes to the country’s development but we have failed when it comes to road safety.

It baffles me to know traffic lights are a rare sight outside of the city. I strongly believe the implementation of traffic lights in our country roads, Parika to Vreed-eh-Hoop for example is needed. Drivers are given a free road to just go, yes there are rules but who’s ensuring those rules are being followed?

Traffic lights at every block or intersection similar to how it is done in foreign countries will slow drivers down. Drivers will have to be more conscious and aware of their surroundings.

In order for traffic lights to work however it has to be consistent throughout the main roads. Coupled with traffic lights I believe designated pedestrian cross walks at every block or intersection is needed.

If you believe the implementation of traffic lights will help create a SAFER GUYANA, please sign and share this petition.
