Traffic Calming Needed, the 800 Block of Tyson Street, 21201
The Issue
With a lack of continuous sidewalks, and it’s proximity to public transit, small retail, and the Bromo Arts and Washington monument tourism, Tyson Street has a significant amount of pedestrian traffic. Cars have long threatened the pedestrian residents, pets, children, and visitors. For us at 855 and 840, our buildings are at the mid-point of speed gain for a car driving on Tyson Street. We find that we have “close calls” at least three-to-four times per year.
To make change, this issue needs to be known to the city of Baltimore and MVBA, and we need your voice in this matter. While a cobblestone street to slow traffic would be lovely, the most likely outcome is for the city to install speed-bumps. We are willing to live with speed-bumps. We also know that speed bumps will make Tyson less desirable as a short cut to Madison Street for those who drive against the one-way, and therefore also reduce wrong-way traffic.
We hope you are able to support this petition, which we believe will make Tyson Street a safer place to walk and to live — especially for children and pets. The “walk-ability” of our neighborhood is one reason we have all chosen to live here and we hope you can support us. Our goal is to make the 800 block of Tyson safer place to be, and more livable place to call home.
The implementation of these traffic calming measures is crucial to create a safer environment that prioritizes the well-being of our community members, especially vulnerable road users such as children, elderly individuals, and pedestrians. This action will prevent accidents and preserve the safety and security of all residents.
