Traffic Calming Measures at Nausauket Road and Darrow Drive

The Issue

Residents along Nausauket Road, particularly near the intersection of Darrow Drive, are facing an urgent safety concern due to persistent speeding during peak traffic hours. This stretch of road sees a significant increase in speeding between 6:45 AM and 9:30 AM, and again from 2:30 PM to 6 PM—precisely when children are being dropped off or picked up from a nearby daycare and school bus stop. Families and pedestrians in the area are increasingly vulnerable, as drivers routinely exceed the speed limit, creating a hazardous environment for the youngest members of our community.

If this issue continues unaddressed, the potential for serious accidents or injuries remains alarmingly high. The absence of traffic calming measures—such as stop signs or speed humps—at this critical intersection puts children, parents, and neighbors at risk every day. Implementing these safety features would significantly reduce speeding and help restore a sense of security for everyone who lives, walks, or drives through this area.

Now is the time for action. Although police have monitored the road, their presence has not aligned with the hours when speeding is most prevalent, and enforcement has been limited to undocumented warnings. The community has voiced its concerns, and the threat to public safety continues to grow. With school in session and children exposed daily to unsafe traffic conditions, we urge city officials to act swiftly and decisively to protect our neighborhood before tragedy strikes.
