There is no scientific evidence which proves GMO crops are safe to eat. 50% of crops grown in America are genetically engineered and 85% of processed food in our supermarkets is GMO, yet the USDA and FDA ban consumer warning labels on groceries that have GMO ingredients. GMO crops have 26% more pesticide residue than other crops according to the Organic Consumers Association. GMO technology utilizes trans-species gene splicing - putting the DNA of animals into food crops - for example, the DNA of rats has been injected into tomato seeds because rats synthesize Vitamin C much faster than any other organism. In 1990, Monsanto promised Genetically Engineered crops would solve world hunger. In 2011, world hunger has increased. GMO has nothing to do with solving world hunger, but instead is based on the premise that biotechnology companies can patent seeds and charge royalties to farmers every year into perpetuity. Monsanto has bought up over 50% of global seed companies and has a monopoly on our world wide food supply. GMO is about corporate greed - not agricultural need.
