Latest Toyota Hiace model 2019 and onward front wheel tire worn out fast!
The issue
This petition is regards about the tires on the front wheels that get worn out fast on the latest Toyota Hiace model 2019 and onward. The reason for this petition is to bring the problem to Toyota Australia’s attention and gather all the owners who have this problem but failed to fix it and haven’t found a solution. I believe by gathering all the owners who have experienced this problem and sign this petition it could make Toyota Australia aware of the problem and come out with a solution. If Toyota Australia continues to ignore the problem this petition could also be used for future reference for fair trading or legal purposes.
I’ll share with you what I have done so far to try to fix the problem and the response I received from Toyota Australia. Also, response from when speaking with a lot of current owners.
I first realise the problem, when my front left tire edge became worn out at around 8,000 km on the odometer. This is abnormal to me as a driver who has been driving for over twenty years. So, I decided to contact Toyota Australia on 02.12.2020 and the response was:
Tyres are considered normal wear and tear components and as such, are not covered under the manufacturer’s warranty.
The life span of a tyre varies from driver to driver and is largely influenced by varying factors outside of Toyota’ control, including individual driving technique, area of use, environment, ownership & service/maintenance history, maintenance etc.
Tyres showing wear on one side, or showing feathered edges to the tread pattern, are often indicative of mechanical maladjustment. The car's steering, and/or suspension geometry (wheel alignment) should be further checked by your Toyota Dealer.
I understand Toyota Australia’s response as it could be the drivers issue but I disagree. There was nothing I could do so I went to go and seek advice from the tyre shop. First, I went to Toyota Dealer and they acknowledged the problem but couldn’t fix it. Then, after that I went to three different tyre shops and did two wheel alignments. The first wheel alignment is on 19/12/2020 and the second is on 13/02/2021. The third tyre shop said it had nothing to do with the wheel alignment after I told them I already did my wheel alignment from two different shops. He then said it was probably the camber and tried to adjust it, but then found out that the current model camber couldn’t be adjusted. In the end, he was also unsure what the cause was.
I contacted Toyota Australia again via an email on 14.03.2021 to let them know what I done to try to fix the problem but I didn't get a response from them.
What gave me confidence to start this petition was that Toyota Australia didn’t have a solution and neither did the three other tyre shops I went to. To me, this indicated that the problem had to be from Toyota Australia.
If you’re an owner and you have the same problem then please sign this petition as it could help us solve the problem by having Toyota Australia come out with a solution or using it to go through our legal system in Australia.
