Stray dogs are not being collected after hours by the council, with 3-4 days between collections on public holiday weekends. Finders of stray dogs are being advised by the council to bring stray animals to vet clinics or release the animals back on the streets. This is unacceptable and a blatant hand-balling of the councils responsibilities. The course of action the council is advising is dangerous to the public with animals roaming on busy roads and also potentially attacking humans and other animals. The advised course of action is also dangerous to the dogs who risk being hit by cars. This petition calls on Mayor Jenny Hill and the Townsville City Council to provide an after hours service/facility where the public can get stray animals scanned for microchips, and reunited with their owners or the animals can be impounded should this process be unsuccessful.
