Somersworth, NH residents are requesting that the city reevaluate the quality of the town trash bags and the manufacturer or distributor who supplies them as the bags rip and tear excessively easily. Conversely if the quality of the bags cannot be improved residents would like the high cost of the bags to be evaluated within future trash removal budget considerations. We would like alternative options to also be weighed such as a SMART, Save Money Reduce Trash, type program or  "pay as you throw" program designed to encourage lower trash output with higher rates of recycling amongst residents. Such program would need to come with concomitant higher quality trash bags in light of the reduced trash removal cost within the city budget and a weekly recycling pickup program as opposed to the current biweekly pickup. This petition simply asks that the city agree to consider available options, not limited to the ones outlined above, and try to find creative solutions instead of doing nothing.
