Stop the proposed horse racetrack in Sturbridge, Massachusetts

The Issue

Bringing gambling and inhumane Horseracing into the town of Sturbridge will change its  ambiance and image. It is a beautiful, unique  rural town known for its historic “Old Sturbridge Village “ .  The racehorse owner proposing the “equestrian center “, Armand Janjigian, envisions a “safe racetrack “, pleasant life and retirement for the horses. Horseracing is inherently inhumane and horses infrequently enjoy a pleasant retirement.

The following information is from the website Horseracingwrongs

● The typical racehorse is thrust into intensive training at 18 months, and raced at two, before their bones are fully formed This leads to multiple injuries, often resulting in euthanasia.

 ● Racehorses are routinely injected, legally and otherwise, with myriad performance-enhancing, injury-masking, and pain-numbing chemicals

 ● Horseracing Wrongs has documented over 7,000 deaths at U.S. tracks just since 2014, and estimates that over 2,000 horses are killed racing or training across America every year.

 ● By law, racehorses are literal chattel – things to be bought, sold, traded, and dumped whenever and however their people decide.

 ● Two independent studies indicate that most – some 10,000-20,000 annually – spent or no-longer-wanted racehorses are mercilessly bled-out and butchered at “career’s” end.

Thus, most do not retire at the end of their work life.
