Stop Rezoning of Thomas School of Horsemanship at 250 Round Swamp Road, Melville, NY 11747

The Issue

Protect Our Zoning

Vote No to Rezoning!!!!

Thomas School of Horsemanship and Camp (Round Swamp Road, Melville, NY)

The new owners/builders, Equestrian Estates of Melville, LLC are looking to drastically increase the housing density of the property on Round Swamp Road by rezoning it from R-80 (2 acres) to R-20.   This change will fundamentally change the character of our neighborhood and will set a bad precedent for future developments on any other camps or farms in the area.

The developers claim that their desire to greatly increase the density is to preserve part of the existing horse farm.  However, this is very misleading as they intend to build 33 homes with the new zoning as opposed to 8-9 homes with the existing zoning or 16-18 homes if they were to get a one-acre zoning change.

While preserving part of the horse farm the trade-off is high density zoning which changes the neighborhood, increases traffic, and will ultimately lower property value is not worth the price.  This will set a precedent for future rezoning with the other camps and farms in our area. Let's join together to prevent greedy developers from lining their pockets at the community’s expense.

If you are not already part of the Sweet Hollow Civic Association, please join with by emailing (sweethollowcivic@gmail.com) or the Facebook Group to stay informed and attend all meetings to protect our community and our zoning. Town vote can be as soon as June 16, 2020.  We need to show the town we are not in agreement with anything that diminishes the beautiful community we choose to live in.
