Home to more than 60,000 residents and thousands of dogs, increasing amenities and accommodations for canines and dog owners in the Town of Greenwich, CT has become in high demand. 

Currently the Town of Greenwich allows dogs to visit Greenwich Point (AKA Tod’s Point) from December 1 thru March 31, each year.

PAWS of Greenwich and the community of responsible dog owners wish to extend the season for dogs, to start one month earlier and end one month later. November 1 through April 31, annually. This timeframe will mimick nearby Rye Playland Beach’s Dog Beach season. 

Why is this important?

1. The Town has only 1 Dog Park. This is the ONLY location where dogs are ALLOWED to be Run freely in the entire town, which spans some 67 square miles.

The current dog park is located on Grass Island, off exit 3. The park is not regularly maintained, is small and looks over the water treatment plant, emitting horrible smells and resulting in ample flies, especially during the summer months. The park is also very muddy and mainly dirt and has loose/broken fencing in areas and the ground is made of debris as it was built on a landfill - yes a landfill. 2. More Dogs, More Residents... more demand! Greenwich is seeing a huge spike in the number of new residents - and their furry friends-moving into Town. and not to mention the Pandemic Puppy Boom! We need to accommodate the needs of our residents by easing restrictions for law abiding dog owners. 

3. Exercise is incredibly important for a well balanced & behaved canine (and people too) Extended access to Tod’s Point and the Beach, offers incredible opportunities for canines  - and their humans- to explore, exercise and enrich their lives. With COVID, walking and exercising your dog, is an incredible way to exercise and socialize - while being socially distant. 

We understand there are some concerns regarding safety and waste pick up, have some easy solutions in mind, that could ensure a balance for both non dog visitors and our furry friends.
