The Winthrop Open Discussion group is a huge Facebook group that is a cesspool of racism, prejudice, Islamophobia, and Transphobia. Winthrop Massachusetts has made a lot of headlines as of late and we believe it is representative of the racism and exclusionary culture that is allowed and encouraged in the Winthrop Open Discussion forum. Winthrop just drove it's first black town manager to quit due to the harassment and disrespect that was not given to the former white town managers. Winthrop has elected a Trump supporting, transphobic, racist,  State representative in a special election. 

Many of the people in the group are not even from Winthrop MA. It has become a safe space for racists, conspiracy theorists, and for even some that attended or supported the Insurrection of the capitol on January 6th. It is a stain on the town of Winthrop's name and should not be allowed to represent the the town, even in an unofficial way. 

We ask that the town council send a cease and desist Winthrop Open Discussion group to remove the towns name from the the page. That will allow Winthrop to dissociate from this hate filled group.
