The renaming of Dundas Street is estimated to cost around $6M. There are much better ways of using this money (e.g. building affordable housing, improving access to green spaces, expanding youth programs, investing in education, upgrading critical infrastructure). Renaming Dundas Street does not address the underlying issues of racism or inequality. It is only an expensive and wholly unproductive token gesture designed to provide a facade of progress.
