In an individual capacity as somebody affected by the closure of our cinema I wrote an e mail to Richard Bellamy - Head of Heritage Lottery Fund Wales. I wanted to let him know that this petition site clearly demonstrated the strength of feeling in Penarth about not losing our cinema. I had this response which I wanted to share with you all:-
Dear Mr Jones,
Thank you for your e-mail of the 7th of March and the link to the on-line petition.
We are aware that Penarth Arts And Crafts Ltd are facing operational challenges and the management and trustees are having to make some difficult decisions in the short term to ensure the facility remains on a sustainable financial footing. As an original funder of the restoration of the Pier Pavilion, we are in active discussions with Penarth Arts And Crafts Ltd, the BIG Lottery and the Vale of Glamorgan Council as to how we may be able to assist in achieving a long term sustainable solution for the building. I think everyone is in agreement that the refurbishment of the Pier Pavilion has been an important part of the regeneration of Penarth's Esplanade and the signatories to your petition clearly illustrate the level of local interest in the building. The aim of all parties now should be to secure a self-sustaining future for this important community resource.
Thank you for your interest in this matter.
Yours sincerely
Richard Bellamy

.........let us all hope that these discussions about the future of our Pavilion include the reopening of our beloved cinema and the resumption of the excellent programme of films that we have become used to and appreciated
