Change Blackhawk Country Club Name and Logo

Change Blackhawk Country Club Name and Logo
The Issue
Blackhawk Country Club appropriates Native American culture and history by using an "Indian Head" logo and the name Blackhawk. Black Hawk was a leader and warrior of the Sauk tribe in the 18-19th centuries. He notably fought with the British against the Americans in the War of 1812, opposing policies of accommodation with the US government, and was defeated in a brief conflict with the US known as the Black Hawk War of 1832.
Picnic Point and UW-Madison are on historically and rightfully Ho-Chunk tribal lands. After the Black Hawk War, a series of treaties over the next century forced the Winnebago and Ho-Chunk tribes out of their homeland and were removed to reservations in Minnesota, South Dakota, and Nebraska.
It is disrespectful for the Blackhawk Country Club to use the Black Hawk name and "Indian Head" logo to market and profit for their club; even more so because the club sits on sacred and stolen land. There may be no overt intent; however, by continuing to use the logo and Blackhawk name, the club is ignoring the centuries of genocide against and appropriation of Native American lives and culture.
