Vote for and Fully Fund the End Youth Homelessness Amendment Act

The Issue

There are thousands of DC youth living without a home. Last year alone, one youth homeless provider had to turn away 300 young people in one month because of the lack of space and resources.  This winter, nearly 50% of families seeking shelter were headed by youth under the age of 24. It is time to stop turning our backs on DC youth and make a serious commitment to breaking the cycle of poverty.

Please vote for and invest $10 million in the End Youth Homelessness Amendment Act.

If fully funded, the End Youth Homelessness Amendment Act would only take up 0.13% of DC’s FY’15 Budget. It would save DC a total tax and social burden of $50 million.

We must invest in these youth now, before our young, resilient DC residents are trapped in chronic homelessness. If the District helps youth help themselves, young people will give the District back even more in return.

The Homeless Youth Amendment Act is one piece of legislation in a comprehensive strategy to end homelessness in the District of Columbia. Additional legislation targets Family Homelessness, Chronic Homelessness, and Veteran Homelessness. Read Helping Families Home: A Roadmap for the District.
