Save The Indian!

Save The Indian!
The Issue
We 05ers and Waite alum have been “Loyal, Loyal to ol’ Waite High” for over 100 years and now it’s time for Ol’ Waite High School to be loyal to us!
TPS is trying to change our beloved Indian mascot! We have a long history which is intertwined with the Indians who once lived and hunted where our school stands today. Don’t let them take that away from us!
In 1980, Morrison R. Waite High School celebrated its rich heritage by publishing The Years of the Indian. It was a book that presented a nostalgic pictorial review of the history of Waite beginning with the year 1914, and also honored the historical past of the East Side and the diverse people who settled in the community. The following is part of that history contributed by Robert Genzman, Waite Class of 1959.
“It has been 150 (190) years since the first log cabin was constructed at the corner of Oak and Front Streets. The East Side was the hunting ground of Tecumseh, Little Turtle, Ottokee, and Blue Jacket Indians. At the exact spot (where Waite High School is located), an Ottawa Indian village existed, thus the name Waite Indian. East Toledo, 135 (175) years ago, was an Indian Reservation.”
Please take a moment to sign this petition and let the TPS Board of Education know what we think of this ludicrous idea!
Loyal, Loyal to Ol Waite High, We Will Ever Be!
