We, the undersigned, express our deep concern over the participation of representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran in United Nations related bodies and committees related to human rights.

Following the events of Dey 1404 (January 2026), when nationwide protests in Iran were met with severe repression, numerous reports documented the killing of protesters, mass arrests, and the use of lethal force by security forces. These events are part of a broader pattern of systematic human rights violations that continues to deny the Iranian people their fundamental rights and freedoms.

A government credibly accused of grave and repeated human rights abuses should not be granted positions within bodies tasked with defending human rights.

We believe:

• The Islamic Republic cannot credibly claim to represent the rights and aspirations of the people of Iran.
• Its presence in human rights related bodies constitutes a serious conflict of interest.
• Allowing alleged perpetrators of abuses to influence human rights mechanisms undermines the credibility of the United Nations and weakens public trust in international accountability.
• Such appointments risk being used to project political legitimacy rather than demonstrate genuine commitment to human rights.

Reports by organizations such as UN Watch have raised concerns about governments with troubling human rights records—including Iran—being placed in positions that can influence human rights policy and civil society participation.

We call on the United Nations and its Member States to:

1. Review and reconsider the participation of the Islamic Republic of Iran in human rights-related bodies and committees.
2. Establish stronger and more transparent standards for membership in such bodies.
3. Ensure that the voices of Iranian civil society, victims’ families, and political prisoners are meaningfully considered in relevant decision-making.

Victims of repression should not see those responsible elevated to positions of authority over human rights.

We urge individuals, civil society organizations, and defenders of human rights everywhere to sign this petition and call for accountability.

درخواست از سازمان ملل متحد:  اجازه ندهید که ناقضان حقوق بشر در نهادهای مرتبط  با حقوق بشر جایگاهی داشته باشند

ما، امضاکنندگان این دارخواست، نگرانی عمیق خود را نسبت به حضور و مشارکت نمایندگان جمهوری اسلامی ایران در نهادها و کمیته‌های مرتبط با حقوق بشر در سازمان ملل متحد اعلام می‌کنیم.

در پی رویدادهای دی‌ ماه ۱۴۰۴ (ژانویه ۲۰۲۶)، زمانی که اعتراضات سراسری در ایران با سرکوب شدید مواجه شد، گزارش‌های متعدد از کشته شدن معترضان، بازداشت‌های گسترده و استفاده از نیروی مرگبار توسط نیروهای امنیتی حکایت داشت.  این رویدادها بخشی از الگویی گسترده‌تر از نقض‌های سیستماتیک حقوق بشر است که همچنان حقوق و آزادی‌های بنیادین مردم ایران را سلب می‌کند.

حکومتی که به‌طور معتبر به نقض‌های جدی و مکرر حقوق بشر متهم است، نباید در نهادهایی که مأمور دفاع از حقوق بشر هستند جایگاهی داشته باشد.

ما بر این باوریم که:

• جمهوری اسلامی نمی‌تواند به‌طور معتبر مدعی نمایندگی حقوق و مطالبات مردم ایران باشد.
• حضور آن در نهادهای حقوق بشری، تعارضی جدی در منافع ایجاد می‌کند.
• سپردن امکان اثرگذاری بر سازوکارهای حقوق بشر به عاملان ادعایی نقض حقوق، اعتبار سازمان ملل و اعتماد عمومی به پاسخگویی بین‌المللی را تضعیف می‌کند.
• چنین انتصاب‌هایی این خطر را دارند که به ابزاری برای مشروعیت‌بخشی سیاسی تبدیل شوند، نه نشانه‌ای از تعهد واقعی به حقوق بشر.

گزارش‌ها و تحلیل‌های نهادهایی چون یوان واتچ نیز نگرانی‌هایی درباره حضور دولت‌هایی با سوابق نگران‌کننده حقوق بشری، از جمله ایران، در موقعیت‌هایی که می‌توانند بر سیاست‌گذاری حقوق بشر و مشارکت جامعه مدنی اثر بگذارند، مطرح کرده‌اند.

ما از سازمان ملل متحد و دولت‌های عضو می‌خواهیم:

۱. عضویت و مشارکت جمهوری اسلامی ایران در نهادها و کمیته‌های مرتبط با حقوق بشر را مورد بازبینی و تجدیدنظر قرار دهند.

۲. معیارهای قوی‌تر و شفاف‌تری برای عضویت دولت‌ها در این نهادها ایجاد کنند.

۳. اطمینان حاصل کنند که صدای جامعه مدنی ایران، خانواده‌های قربانیان و زندانیان سیاسی به‌طور معنادار در تصمیم‌گیری‌های مرتبط شنیده و لحاظ می‌شود.

قربانیان سرکوب نباید شاهد باشند کسانی که مسئول این نقض‌ها هستند در جایگاه اقتدار بر حقوق بشر قرار می‌گیرند. از همه افراد، نهادهای مدنی و مدافعان حقوق بشر در سراسر جهان می‌خواهیم این دادخواست را امضا کنند و خواستار پاسخگویی شوند.
