In The Flesh was cruelly axed as part of the plans to close BBC3. Don't let other shows suffer too by signing here - http://bit.ly/1Mdfzfd. One of the key remits of the channel is "to aid the discovery and promotion of the best of British talent". Without BBC Three I doubt James Corden would be presenting a big American television show, In The Flesh and Being Human may never have been made, and shows like Little Britain wouldn't have been developed into their own USA flagship shows. Murdered By My Boyfriend might never have received widespread praise if it was online-only, and Bad Education may never have been made into a movie on the big screen. The new emphasis on online short form content just will not have the same impact. Earlier this week Director General and the BBC's Director of Strategy were in Parliament discussing their plans for the future of the BBC. The Director General revealed he had taken on board a petition of 130,000 names calling for CBeebies to be saved, and that its future was secure. This gives us hope to keep fighting - so I urge you to call on more to sign ours and the above link. What was most telling though was James Purnell defending a BBC1+1. He said one of the key reasons for trying to create it was a "big part of the youth audience that had limited access to online content at all". He said televisions channels offered choice and would be around for a "long period of time". He didn't think they would be replaced by on-demand. If the BBC's own Director of Strategy thinks this, why should we be convinced by their arguments to make BBC Three online-only?! Sign away - savebbc3.com/response - we have just twelve days to encourage people to participate in one of the final steps of this campaign.
