For the health and well being of these animals.   On Majorca there is an age-old custom of tying goats legs together to stop them climbing  trees, leaping fences and thereby causing damage. The goat is an extremely active and agile creature and this barbaric custom is sheer cruelty. If you look at the goat in the photograph you can see that s/he is "lucky" a s/he has specially made fetters.  Many farmers cannot be bothered or are too tight-fisted to spend, so just tie the animal's legs with ropes or chains and it does not need much to imagine the awful pain and damage to their legs, torn and bleeding and their hooves that do not get "worn down" as they should from lack of movement.   Even pregnant goats are fettered and give birth to their kids in that state.   Totally illogical is that you will even see fettered sheep!  Active and frolicking as they might be they do not climb trees!   Why?  What is the point of such cruelty?   There is a law forbidding the fettering of animals but few pay any attention to it and with this petition we want to put pressure on the balearic goverment to implement the law and for the authorities to follow up, immediately,  any denouncements made by citizens.
