Stop dog meat trade in Cambodia

The Issue

We believe Cambodia is the country of Civilized World. Khmer nationality is very kind and sympathetic naturally. Its not just words but an opinion of foreigners who used to live here.

But its just the only one thing what makes us feel extremely bad and seriously disappointed. It is widely practiced across  the country.  It is definitely not the part of native customs. It's Dog meat trade.

Terrific cruelty to the dogs, making them suffer so bad and even murder all these pets for only the turning them into food make everyone shudder with horror.

This way to feed people levels Cambodia down to barbarous lands and brings shame on the nation dogs are our friends and don't deserve to be treated like that.

It is disappointing that Cambodia has no animal protection laws to guard the well being of it's animals. Consequently, animal cruelty is rife across the country, with perpetrators answering to no one.

It is time for Cambodia to end the brutally cruel dog meat trade and issue animal protection laws, which will also be enforced. Cambodia's dog meat trade is one of the country's most brutal areas of animal cruelty, where dogs are routinely tortured in full view of passers by, who seem immune to what they are witnessing.

Fully conscious dogs are hung up and have their lower legs cut off with a knife, then their eyes gouged out and are skinned alive, still conscious and writhing in agony as they hang from the neck, unable to scream out in pain. Other methods of torture on dogs, such as setting fire to fully conscious dogs with a hand held blow torch, are equally as brutal. Many of the companion animals are stolen pets still wearing house collars and name tags.

Torturing the animal is known as "tenderizing" the meat, to deliberately induce as much adrenaline as possible into the conscious animal's body, to ensure the meat is as tough as possible, under the false belief that tough meat passes greater medicinal value and boost to a man's libido.

We respectfully ask Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Sen:

- Activate animal cruelty laws, against maltreatment and neglect.

- Provide funding for trap, neuter and release programs to prevent street dogs and cats from breeding.

- Implement laws to make owners responsible for their dogs, to prohibit dogs loitering on streets.

- All dogs and cats to be vaccinated against rabies.

- Ban dog and cat meat in Cambodia and shut the trade down.
