To Make Undine Street a safe School Street for our children and pedestrians

The Issue

I have lived around Tooting for almost 20 years, and I believe that Undine Street has become a cause for concern due to its lack of safety measures for school children and residents. As a member of the community who works at St Boniface, I witness the reckless speeding of cars along Undine Street during the day from my office.

One significant issue that needs urgent attention is the safety of pedestrians and school children trying to cross the road. The current infrastructure does not adequately support safe crossing points, putting school children at risk when walking to and from school. This poses a serious threat to their well-being as they navigate this busy street.

To ensure the safety of our children, I am requesting the implementation of the following traffic calming measures on Undine Street.

1 - Installing cameras to enforce School Street traffic regulations, rules and times.

2 - A built-out kerb with suggested bollard width restrictions outside St Boniface Primary school on Undine Street like the one developed outside Tooting Primary could slow down motorists and ensure safe passage.

3 - Residents are concerned about the air quality on Undine Street as pollution levels increase.  Planting trees, similar to Valnay St, should be taken to improve air quality by providing shade during hotter summers and filtering harmful pollutants.

We believe it is the responsibility of local authorities to prioritise the safety and well-being of our community members. By making Undine Street safer to cross, walk along, and cycle on, we can create a healthier environment for everyone. We urge the relevant authorities in Wandsworth to take immediate action by implementing appropriate traffic calming measures such as pedestrian crossing, built out kerb, improved footpaths and planting trees for cleaner air.

Together, let's make Undine Street a model for safe and sustainable urban living in our beloved neighbourhood.

Thank you for your support in making this change happen.
