   If you wait until June to open Bars, Restaurants, Hair Salons, Gyms and all other forms of Small Businesses you will be destroying the American Dream in Florida. 

  Small Business makes up 99% of the American Workforce. 

89% of those Small Businesses Employ less than 20 People. 

  We would like you to consider the possibility that the Small Business Owners of Florida are capable of following the same CDC & DOH guidelines that the Conglomerates do. 

  A single Walmart location on Average sees 20,000 people per regular day while an average small business with less than 20 employees sees less than 100 people per day.  Why is the entity that sees 20,000 per day safer than the entity that sees less than 100 people per day?   

 Why is opening up now this important?

For the Florida Small Business, this is our livelihood. We have absolutely NO money coming in but still have to pay our state and federal taxes along with utilities, insurance, etc. Most of us are going on day 50 of being shut down. Please reconsider opening up all Businesses before the end of May. 

 

 

Florida Small Businesses are defining and vital contributors to our communities. They are gathering places where people celebrate good times and forget their troubles in bad. Older ones are as much a part of their landscape and cities’ identity as landmark buildings, theaters, and museums. But the danger of COVID-19 means that they can no longer be that place for people. And it means that this time, we are among those in trouble.”

 

As chefs, bartenders, hair stylist, restaurant and bar owners, and all other forms of Florida Small Business we are writing to tell you that without swift action and commitment from our local and state governments, many of the Small Businesses that closed voluntarily—or by mandate—at this moment of crisis will not come back. That sounds like an exaggeration. It is not. We are on the brink of extinction.

Just as many individuals live from paycheck to paycheck, so too do the Small Business Families. There’s no nest egg. No reserve fund. No glass to break in case of emergency. We cannot work from home. 

 

For years Local Small Business owners have contributed to our communities, routinely providing food, service and auction items to fundraisers and other charity events, even though we earn precious little ourselves. Now, we need help from our communities and government.
