It's time to bring down the cost of uk school holidays and make it affordable for all!
Why this petition matters

As a working parent myself I know too well how hard it can be to book a holiday in the school holidays due to the prices. In most schools (like my sons) , you have to get authorised absence and this is for emergencies only (which I do fully understand) . I believe that the rising costs of uk holidays in the school holidays should be capped at a certain percentage to make it more affordable for families to go on holiday ,therefore not affecting the child’s education and attendance. This would also make holidays more affordable for families on a lower income (when I was younger my family couldn’t afford to go on a uk holiday or any holiday until I was around 12 years old). The aim is to make uk holidays more affordable for all families. The costs of a uk family holiday double if not triple in school holidays and it is the families who struggle. Family resorts such as Butlins ,Centre parcs and Haven up their prices in and around school holidays making it a real struggle for families and for parents who take children on holiday in school time (like in my case) You have to get permission from the head teacher if you want to take your child out of school during term time. You can only do this if: you make an application to the head teacher in advance (as a parent the child normally lives with) there are exceptional circumstances in accordance with the GOV.UK website and Figures from the Department for Education (DfE) for 2017-18 show that local authorities issued 260,000 penalty notices to parents for unauthorised absences during the state school year, an increase of 110,000 compared with the previous year. Under current legislation, if your child is in an English state school aged 5-16 and they have an unauthorised absence from school during term time you may be fined £60 per child per parent, rising to £120 per child per parent if the fine is not paid within 21 days.
