To be able to own a domesticated Russian fox in California
The Issue
- In the 1950s, a geneticist, Dmitri Belyaev started an experiment in Russia, at the institute of cytology and genetics in Novobrisk. It took 10 generations to domesticate the animal. It started as an experiment to learn about how domestication started. The foxes started to act more like dogs, such as whimpering, crying, and waging there tails to seek human affection. They were much friendlier than the foxes that were born in the wild and the bred “tamed” ones. These foxes that have been domesticated, lost the instinct to survive out in the wild. Their DNA is genetically different from there wild counter parts. The ones that were bred at the institute actually had more serotonin levels than the wild foxes and that’s what makes them happy foxes. In one video about the foxes a scientist herself who worked with dmitri said “ they are as friendly as dogs”. These foxes also will not hurt the environment because they all come sterile which is wild and fishery’s concern. Foxes also can be trained to use the litter. It may be difficult but it is possible to train them like a cat in that sense.
Legalizing the domesticated foxes can make great pets. The foxes are super energetic and make great pets for people who live an active lifestyle such as hiking, long walks or running. Foxes can be spayed and nurtured. They are very friendly towards humans. The experiment had reduced the smell of fox urine and I’m proved there temperament. They can also form strong bonds with their owners. Foxes can help with emotional support for anyone who needs it and can be trained to help people as rescuers.

The foxes can become a loving and important family member to anyone just like dogs and cats have become part of the family.
