Keep Tiverton, RI Green

Keep Tiverton, RI Green
The Issue
We are hoping to stop the over development of our beautifully wooded town of Tiverton, Rhode Island. People need to know that forested areas not only help cool the planet and trap carbon, but, thanks to their developed canopies, they are resistant to infestation by invasive species. During construction of these massive projects, wild inhabitants are recklessly destroyed along with the habitat they have lived in for decades. This devastation also does not allow the animals that live in those woods to escape. We are also running out of space for them to safely live, which in turn places them closer and closer to our front doors. We see greed destroying our environment, wiping out wildlife that are living there and wreaking havoc on the Earth’s ecosystems.
As many are aware there is many projects coming to town that will cause the demolition of multiple acres of woodland being torn down. Below is a list of cons we think need to be considered, as we are fighting for our neighborhoods.
- With over development property prices are higher and so are goods and services.
- higher levels of pollution, including noise and light pollution. This could be damaging to your health in the long-term.
- increase traffic congestion and noise, lead to higher crime rates and force poorer residents out of their homes.
- Schools do not have the budget to hire additional personnel or build new buildings, which can lead to overcrowding in classrooms.
- Overcrowding can also increase stress levels, as people deal with having less physical space and quiet in their environment.
- Hiring of more police, fire, and rescue in which will put a strain on town funds.
- Roads are already in poor conditions, adding more homes and developments means more people, which means more traffic on the roads. This will make our roads even worse to drive on.
If all these proposals of land clearing happens it will start causing extinction, changes to climatic conditions, desertification, and displacement of populations. The time is now to protect our great town.
