Address Racism in TSC

Sign this petition to call for change in the Tippecanoe School Corporation's curriculum that includes the history and repercussions of slavery, segregation, redlining, gerrymandering, discrimination, and all other forms of systemic racism and oppression in the United States.

Many students that have graduated from TSC schools feel that these topics were not addressed in-depth, or at all in some cases. While electives like Ethnic Studies and Sociology are offered at the high school level, students are not required to take these classes. Many graduates miss out on ever learning about the important topics covered in these classes. Tippecanoe County is 77% white, making many of the students in TSC white as well. This makes it very important that white students are made aware of the systemic oppression of people of color, especially the black community. It is a privilege to learn about oppression rather than experiencing it firsthand.

Signing this petition also shows your support to administer anti-racism and bias training for teachers, coaches, and administrators in TSC. All educators need to understand these issues thoroughly in order to effectively teach about it. Educators should also be held to a zero-tolerance racism policy to ensure a safe and productive work environment for their students and coworkers.
