Timetable Alteration on Southeastern to prevent delays and overcrowding
The Issue
Since Southeastern’s timetable change in December across Southern’s service there has been daily delays, and overcrowding to unsafe levels which Southeastern hasn’t tried to resolve or manage at all.
I travel via the Sidcup line and haven’t had an on time train since November last year. It’s gotten to the point I personally am debating moving or using alternative travel even though it takes longer as it is safer and more reliable.
The breaking point for this petition was this morning’s journey. After they cancelled the 7:51 Sidcup to Charing Cross train (and didn’t even tweet to warn customers) the 7:35 was not only delayed and overcrowded before we even reached Mottingham, but the front carriage doors were broken, and so the driver instructed all customers to leave the front carriage (after a further 10 minute delay). A whole carriage worth of customers trying to push their way onto other already over crowded carriages in desperation to make it to work. They then terminated the train 2 stops early. God knows how overcrowded the next train was. I didn't risk finding out. We’ve just left a global pandemic involving socially distancing and I witnessed on this overcrowded train people standing closer than you’d expect most couples to stand in public only halfway down the route. How is this acceptable? People are tweeting daily and Southeastern spew their monotone standard replies with no resolution.
It’s time they take accountability and improve this service. Listen to your staff striking. Make the routes safer for those travelling and prevent overcrowding.
