Time off for IVF appointments

The Issue

Many people (around 7000) are referred for IVF treatment every year. As you can imagine the majority of these people are working.

These people are still working hard and trying to be parents. Some people are lucky enough to be able to fall pregnant without having a job and paying taxes etc.  This does not make people who struggle any less 'worthy'. This is such heartbreaking and hard process to go through IVF. The people going through this that want time off work are obviously in the position where they are struggling but desperately want a child. The least they deserve is a little bit of respect and time off to attend appointments to go through this process which is very time sensitive (for woman you can only 'try' through fertility at a certain age). People are trying their best and people who work are struggling with fertility....so why should they be penalised as they work and can't conceive naturally. Working people pay taxes and deserve surely the bare minimum which is attending doctors appointments(which include fertility).

If things stay the same then it just means that 'working class' people won't have the same opportunities than people that don't work and can take time off for appointments. Fertility has 'time sensitive' appointments and that time for the appointments should be applied to all no matter the circumstances. The government is always saying people should work but making it harder due to circumstances like this....working class pay tax but don't get time off and maybe can't have kids even through no fault of their own. Non working parents can carry on getting paid for kids that they have had but then never work and pay back in tax.

It is time to act as the people that pay taxes are the ones that keep the country going. Yet these people are always out of pocket by paying taxes but see none of the benefits. They pay and pay but are told they can't get legal days off to conceive a baby.  I am a working class person and due to a miscarriage and 2 ectopic pregnancies (resulted in removal of both tubes) I cannot get pregnant naturally. Now I will bring my child into a working class family and can't believe I see that people can't get legal days off to attend fertility appointments. If this is not sorted then you will have people who want to work but can't due to wanting to go through fertility...do workers not deserve the basic respect of doctor appointments no matter what the app is for.

Thank you so much for taking your time to read this and hopefully something can be done.

This is not a 'dig' towards working and not working. I am just stressing that people that don't work have the ability to attend appointments easier than people who have a job. Should we not be helping the people who can't attend due to work by at least giving them legal time off for the appointments.
