My name is Sophia and I am 11 years old.  Recently, word got out that Country Music Dj’s can't play two female artists' songs back to back.  I believe women should have just as much of a chance to be heard on the radio as men.  According to a study from 2001-2020 female artists saw that the amount of time their records were played on country radio decreased by 1.7 million. Meanwhile, the airplay for male artists increased by 4.4 million.  In 2018 the ratio of male to female artists played on country radio was 10:1.

Not since women were denied the right to vote have we seen such discrimination against women. Some people are saying that it is not a  real policy, but a spokesperson for Woman Nashville, an advocacy group for female country artists stated that "just because it's not written policy, doesn't mean it doesn't exist behind closed doors".

Don't let the rich and powerful decide what music you get to hear!  The decline in female music on the radio tells us they are not just going to do the right thing.  There are so many women artists who have a lot of interesting things to say. some that inspire me are Sara Evens, kelsea Ballerini, Maren Morris, and Carrie Underwood. Music can change the way we think and feel.  It can be a comfort to us when we are down and it can lift us up when times are rough. I don't want to lose that. If female artist continue to be underplayed, we might.

I want to fight to get female country music artists equal playtime on the radio.   You can help by signing this petition.

Thank you!
