Three strike rule for stray dogs

Three strike rule for stray dogs
The Issue
Elwood is over crowded with animals running the streets. Every day, there are constant posts of both loose dogs, and homeless cats. Because of this, and lack of vet care & spay/neutering, multiple animals are ending up pregnant, sick or dead. Our local shelter is over whelmed, under funded and over worked. All the workers, and volunteers go above and beyond, but without our community being held responsible as well, nothing will change. It takes a village for change, and there’s enough of us that care to fix this.
The “Three strike rule” would require a fee to get your pet out of custody of the shelter, after the third time of being brought to them, if they see fit . Increasing each time. This way there would be a “consequence” and hopefully precaution would be taken by the owner to ensure the animals safety. This would also help the shelter with funding. Although it’s not a complete fix, this would hold owner’s responsible, and leave everyone a bit more precautious. Our community, shelter and ANIMALS deserve this break. It’s time to change the amount of stays, and unnecessary injured/sick pets. We need to become a community that comes together, and holds each other responsible, to save these innocent animals, who don’t have a say.
