SAVE LITTLE GREEN LANE: Croxley Green’s Conservation Area under threat
Why this petition matters
FOLLOWING THE RECENT TRDC PLANNING MEETING AT WHICH A DECISION ON THE 160 HOME DEVELOPMENT AT KILLINGDOWN FARM WAS DEFERRED - PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION TO:
*STOP Little Green Lane being used as the main access for a 160 home development
• PREVENT the junction at Baldwins Lane becoming an accident black spot
• PROTECT our Heritage and Conservation Area and its wildlife
Little Green Lane is one of Croxley’s most treasured and historic rural byways, used more by families, walkers, cyclists and horse-riders than by cars and is part of both our Conservation Area and the Croxley Boundary Walk. Its ancient hedgerows and historic walls form part of Croxley’s Conservation Area and its beauty, tranquillity and abundant wildlife have been enjoyed for generations.
Shockingly, the Little Green Lane we know and love is under threat of being lost due to a proposed 160 home development at Killingdown Farm. The developers propose to use Little Green Lane as the SOLE ACCESS for the estate, throwing approximately 350+ cars onto this narrow road, which runs through our Conservation Area and alongside the protected Green.
As sole access, up to 350 vehicles from residents, plus deliveries, will pass directly through Conservation Area adding pollution and noise. This is likely to cause harm to the environment and is NOT in keeping with this protected corner of Croxley; potentially causing substantial damage to the special historic character of the Conservation Area and the setting of the Listed buildings at Little Green.
It is only possible to widen Little Green Lane by ripping out its ancient hedgerows, resulting in significant loss of wildlife and permanent damage to our Conservation Area. The road does not cope well with existing traffic levels and the junction with Baldwins Lane is extremely dangerous already.
Such a huge amount of additional traffic exiting Little Green Lane onto Baldwins Lane has the potential to result in gridlock and create an accident blackspot. Local residents will be well aware of the effect exacerbating the already overloaded Green and Baldwins Lane will have in rush hour.
We call upon Three Rivers District Council to fully support measures to stop Little Green Lane and our Conservation Area being used as the main access for this development.
