On June 3, 2026, a social media post went out from the official account of Rep. Andy Ogles of Tennessee that read: "homosexuality has no place in America." Ogles deleted it and blamed a staffer. The employee, he said, was reprimanded.

It was the third time in three months that Ogles had made or amplified a discriminatory statement targeting a minority group from his official platform.

In March, Ogles called for the deportation of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and said Muslims "don't belong in American society." In April, he called Ribvar Karimi, an Iranian man detained by ICE in Alabama, a "known terrorist" who was in the country "for the purpose of committing genocide." Court records showed no evidence to support that claim. A judge later released Karimi after terminating his court proceedings.

Rep. Mike Lawler, a Republican from New York, responded directly: "Homosexuality exists. In America. In fact Andy, you have family, friends, neighbors, colleagues and constituents who are gay and lesbian. It doesn't make them less than or somehow unworthy of being an American."

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise called the post "inappropriate."

Three incidents. Three different minority groups. One congressman blaming staffers and moving on.

We are calling on Rep. Andy Ogles to resign from Congress. We are calling on the House Ethics Committee to open an investigation into whether Ogles' pattern of public statements constitutes conduct unbecoming a member of the House. And we are calling on the Tennessee Republican Party to formally censure Ogles and make clear that these statements do not represent the values of his constituents or his party.

A single staffer error is a mistake. Three incidents in three months is a pattern. Patterns have consequences.
