Three Horses Died of Neglect in Utah. The Person Responsible Must Face Consequences.

The Issue

Three horses are dead. Eight more were found so malnourished and weak they could barely stand. One could not stand at all and had to be euthanized on the spot. A deputy who has worked in animal control for years said he has never seen horses this bad in person.

This did not happen overnight.

Horses do not become this emaciated from a few missed meals. This level of neglect takes weeks. Months. It means no food. No water. No care. While these animals suffered and died one by one, someone chose to do nothing.

Authorities in Iron County, Utah acted on a tip and served a search warrant on the property. They found two horses already dead in the corrals. The eight survivors are now at the sheriff's animal shelter being carefully nursed back to health — their bodies so starved that even feeding them has to be done gradually to avoid further harm.

A suspect has been identified. No charges have been filed.

That must change. The Iron County Attorney must pursue the strongest possible animal cruelty charges available under Utah law. The deliberate starvation of eleven horses — three of whom died — is not a misdemeanor. It is not a minor oversight. It is a prolonged, sustained act of cruelty that cost three animals their lives.

We are calling on the Iron County Attorney to file charges immediately and pursue the maximum penalties available under Utah law.

Sign this petition and demand justice for the horses of Iron County — the three who did not survive and the eight still fighting to recover.
