Good Food For All aims to change mindset/action around Safe, Clean & Nutritious foods.

The Issue

The rising concern about food security has triggered the search for alternative, sustainable sources of food and nutrition. This hybrid premier event showcases that the development of a technologically advanced and sustainable agriculture and aquaculture industry will be the key to resolving the many issues that we currently face in the Southeast Asia region, such as unemployment, food scarcity, rising cost of living, poverty, malnutrition, climate change, and environmental degradation. These issues have opened up alternative pathways to nutrition-sensitive and sustainable food production, including the development of alternative proteins.

Animal agriculture is a major contributor to many global issues, such as climate change, deforestation, pollution, biodiversity loss, soil erosion and degradation, antibiotic resistance, water overuse, and zoonotic diseases. These issues have opened up alternative pathways to nutrition-sensitive and sustainable food production, including the development of alternative proteins.

The pandemic-induced lockdowns have inevitably fostered changing attitudes for food systems and particularly towards food waste and meat consumption, both of which fuel greenhouse gas emissions. Alternative proteins sourced from plants, microbial fermentation, and animal cell culture have the potential to create alternative products that are more ecologically sustainable. We are well aware that adopting a plant-based diet is not a one-size-fits-all solution for addressing the environmental impacts of food production. It presents a unique set of challenges and opportunities for governments and development practitioners around the world. Certainly, the shift towards a plant-based diet has the potential to lower greenhouse gas emissions, reduce environmental degradation, and promote a healthy diet.

This shift offers the opportunity to radically change how food is produced and consumed. It all came down to one solid conclusion, which is a new way to eat is imperative. We need to innovate what we eat, and how we produce food responsibly - to not only improve food security and reduce our environmental impact but also to build a well-nourished society.

Good Food For All (GF4A) aims to drive thinking and action around food as a solution to drive prosperity for people and the planet now. It is not prescriptive but instead prompts the question“what does ‘good food’ mean?" for diverse stakeholders and geographies. GF4A recognises our emotional and cultural connection to food as a source of love and livelihoods while reflecting food’s impact on all areas of our lives.

Without good food, no other progress is possible.
