Give Alya Cesaire From Miraculous Ladybug a Black Voice Actress.
The Issue
In the French-Korean-Japanese Western animated series "Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Chat Noir", the character Nino Lahiffe has had his voice actor replaced by a Black guy named Zeno Robinson due to concerns of racism. This makes sense as Nino himself is a Black guy. However, Alya Cesaire, a Black female character who also has a white voice actress(Carrie Keranen) has not had her voice actress replaced. This is, quite frankly, an example of misogynoir. Why do you care so much about making sure that Black male characters are well-represented and not whitewashed in your media, and yet not extend the same bare minimum of care to your Black female characters? Why are Black female characters only allowed to be present if they are whitewashed to some degree? As a Black girl, I am getting sick and tired of the erasure and misrepresentation of Black women. Please do away with Carrie Keranen as the English dub voice actor of Alya Cesaire in Miraculous Ladybug, and recast a Black(not mixed-race/biracial) voice actress to provide the voice of your Black female character instead. That is all that I am asking of you. If you want Black girls to continue watching your show, then show that you care.
