This Petition Needs You! MSK Values must be upheld! We want transparent elections!
The Issue
As a dedicated member of our industry community in Nairobi County, I have been paying my membership fees with the hope of contributing to an organisation that upholds integrity, transparency, and excellence. However, recent events have shaken my faith and many others like me. The chairperson, who has already served a term, is not only seeking to extend their tenure unopposed but has gone ahead to unilaterally hire a CEO for the Marketing Society of Kenya (MSK) without proper consultation or the democratic procedures we expect.
This autocratic decision-making raises serious concerns about governance, accountability, and adherence to the democratic principles that we hold dear. We cannot allow the same corrupt practices that plague our national politics to seep into our industry bodies. This behaviour stands not only to tarnish the reputation of our industry but also to hinder its growth and the professional development of the talents within.
The history of the MSK should be one of integrity and creativity, not one of controversy and ethical violations. To fortify this, we propose the following actionable solutions:
1. Demand the immediate establishment of an independent committee to oversee the chairperson's re-election process, ensuring transparency and fairness.
2. Insist on a halt to the CEO’s unilateral appointment until a comprehensive review is conducted with ample opportunity for member input and approval.
3. Introduce systematic and regular audits of the management decisions to be reported openly to all members.
Let us unite as industry members to hold our leaders accountable. We must demand better practices, foster a culture of true democracy, and pave the way for rightful governance. Please sign this petition to urge the Marketing Society of Kenya to rectify these issues and ensure that ethical standards are the norm, not the exception. Together, we can bring about meaningful change for the betterment of our industry in Kenya. Sign now to make a difference.
