Dear Friend,
One year ago, our op-ed addressing how restrictive immigration policies are affecting Iraqis who assisted America in combat ran in The Boston Globe. The piece highlighted the refugee case of my interpreter's family which sadly has not progressed any since it was written. The family has not heard anything since their case was conditionally approved 19 months ago.
Protecting our allies who are in danger because of their sacrifice to our country seems like a cause that all Americans should able to rally behind regardless of politics and stance on immigration. This is a no-brainer. Yet, it has only gotten worse for those attempting to flee their country due to the consequences they face for being loyal to America.
Despite this, we remain hopeful as there seems to be a new energy surrounding this issue in a Congress that now includes a U.S. House freshman class that consists of the most veterans in nearly a decade. We are hopeful that the new Congress will demand accountability. We have been approached by members of the media about our story and have begun circulating a petition through Congress, attempting to collect bipartisan signatures to send to the administration. We will continue to keep up the fight on this family's behalf and for those in the same situation.
Thank you for your continued support and for the role you have already played in assisting us.
Pete
