Dear Friend,
Last month, our Change.org petition reached a remarkable 100,000 supporters. We were also contacted by the legal team of Representative Elijah Cummings (D-Md), who learned of our movement. Representative Cummings is the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, and is currently investigating delays in legal immigration (see linked story). We were asked to share with his team our experiences in dealing with U.S. immigration since our case was approved over a year and half ago with no further development.
At the State of the Union Address, President Trump indicated that he is in favor of legal immigration “in the largest numbers ever”. Current immigration policy does not match these words, however. Our case is a perfect example. This family from Iraq has sacrificed more for this country than most naturally born here. Refugees, especially those who assisted our military, are the most heavily vetted of immigrants and are being shut out of the country like never before.
To many, signing an e-petition may seem like a futile exercise. But, you have already proven that it can certainly make a difference and we thank you for that. We are encouraged by the leadership of Representative Cummings and remain hopeful that his committee will hold the administration accountable. We remain hopeful that one day, we will eventually fulfill our promise to this family and to all of our allies from Iraq and Afghanistan who have given up so much for us.
Thank you for staying in the fight with us and we hope to have more updates and another call to action soon.
Pete
