Children with mental health problems, including self-harming, eating and sleep disorders, depression and anxiety, do not receive immediate help from the NHS. This only happens if suicide is a real threat.  It is no surprise that the state of mind of our children is becoming more fraught and mental health problems are growing.  The NHS has no effective help available for the vast majority of our mentally ill children.  This is short-sighted as cases deteriorate and require a greater input as the child gets older.  The health of the child also impacts on the health of the wider family.  It is time that Theresa May recognised this problem and instead of making gestures that are politically inspired, provide a service for our children that will actually be of immediate and timely benefit.
